Safe Bus
17 July 2009
After many months scrambling through the administrative minefield the Safe Bus has finally been cleared for operations, starting from 24th July on every Friday and Saturday night until 29th August. It is expected to open around 10pm until 3am, or later if enough volunteers are available.
The main focus for the bus is to provide a haven for the vulnerable, those who may have come adrift from their party, are probably the worse for wear, or need medical assistance. There will be a paramedic presence which should also have a positive effect on the reduction of A&E numbers, ambulance activity, and less need for police involvement in what are often minor cases but that still take time to deal with. In essence this is a trial period, but with support from all partners it is hoped that the operation of the bus will be extended, especially for the University and College Fresher period in September and the influx of new students to the town. The bus will initially be sited at the Glen Fern Car Park, and people requiring care or treatment should be directed there. It is expected that a support vehicle will also be available, so for venues away from the immediate town centre who are dealing with a situation that could be covered by the bus it will still be worth making contact - 07795 334337.

Bournemouth now has blue flags for beaches, green flags for parks and a purple flag for the night time economy!
