The lights are on but nobody’s inn!
Well they’re not on quite yet but the new ‘traffic light’ scheme for Bournemouth and Poole is on the horizon, each venue being awarded points for a variety of offences, so more points means less prizes!
Those with none or few points will be on green, those in the middle on amber, and those at the top end of trouble on red. Red means action needed and ultimate failure to take action could end up in a licence review or revocation. To some extent, this is simply formalising existing processes with a manageable trace on offences and activity, and the night time economy will benefit from firm action against irresponsible trading, if that’s the outcome. There is a question over whether installing such systems will change the character of partnership working between the police and the trade, generally thought of as being very positive in Bournemouth, and will venues report as easily the information from which the police partly build their points? Let’s have your views?

Bournemouth now has blue flags for beaches, green flags for parks and a purple flag for the night time economy!
