Responsible Drinking

Drinking Limit

Drinking Limits Explained:

A hazardous drinker is someone who either regularly drinks more than the recommended daily unit allowance or someone who is prone to less frequent binge drinking (consuming twice the daily limit in a single session).

A harmful drinker drinks more than a hazardous drinker. Harmful drinking has an impact on physical and mental health.

Dependent drinkers have a strong desire to drink alcohol and continue to do so despite being aware of how harmful their drinking is. When without alcohol, dependent drinkers show significant signs of withdrawal and many use alcohol to stop those symptoms.

Binge drinking: The Royal College of Physicians defines binge drinking as: "a man who regularly drinks 10 units or more in a single session or a woman who regularly drinks seven or more units in a single session."
